当天，露天剧场原本在举行Netflix Is a Joke Festival活动，也就是美国版“欢乐喜剧人”。
但到节目尾声，48岁的喜剧演员Dave
Chappelle戴夫·查佩尔向前几位演员表示感谢时，一名男子突然手持复制枪走上舞台，并弹出一把刀，随后把查佩尔推倒在地！

几秒钟后，保安赶来，该男子试图从舞台后面逃跑，但最后被保安围住。
好在，查佩尔没有在袭击中受伤。

随后，喜剧嘉宾克里斯洛克上台给了查佩尔一个拥抱，并开玩笑说：“那是威尔史密斯吗？”
在这场突发事件发生后，查佩尔回到舞台上完成了表演。他还跟观众表示：“我不知道那是不是节目的一部分。我抓住了那个人的后脑勺，他的头发蓬松，吸水。”
根据abc7报道，这名嫌疑人叫Isaiah
Lee以赛亚·李，今年23岁，袭击发生后，他被送往医院，随后入狱。目前被指控使用致命武器袭击。
