综合外媒报导，斯派德有一对邻居夫妻，分别是现年50岁的戈伊（James
Goy）和48岁的丽莎（Lisa），两人因为连日下雪导致住家附近积雪厚重，便开始剷雪。不过斯派德不满夫妻两人将雪产到自己家门前，便上前开始理论。
原本双方隔著一条道路隔空咆啸，没想到斯派德火气愈来越大，竟然直接掏出一把手枪对著两人开，没想到这还不能消减他的怒气，更直接回家拿出一把AR-15半自动步枪朝两人近距离开火，最后他返回家中举枪自尽，当事者三人全数身亡。
