美国司法部去年起使用了新的死刑注射药物「戊巴比妥」（pentobarbital），美国联邦地区法院法官库特莰（Tanya
Chutkan）13日指出，死囚可能会以新药违宪为由起诉法院，要求暂缓执行死刑。美国哥伦比亚特区联邦上诉法院（U.S. Court
of Appeals for the District of Columbia
Circuit）也表示不会如期进行死刑。但美国最高法院却在今日凌晨以五票赞成、四票反对，同意死刑执行。
皮特森与其他两名受害者家属也于上週提起诉讼，要求法院考量武汉肺炎疫情带来的健康风险，延后执行死刑，但还是无法阻止李遭处决。
